Offaly Ambassadors Programme – Promoting the County

bales_in_a_field.jpg
An exciting networking and promotional initiative for County Offaly was officially launched in 2005 in the historic surroundings of the Old Fort Restaurant in Shannonbridge. Offaly people from business, media, sport and the arts have joined together to become Ambassadors for the County and assist in raising its profile as a quality investment location. The programme has been developed by two local development agencies – Atlantic Corridor Ireland & Offaly County Enterprise Board in association with Offaly County Council.

The Offaly Ambassadors Programme is a means of promoting Offaly and increasing the awareness of its attractiveness for re-location of existing, and development of new businesses through the help of the commercial sector currently engaged within the county. The project will involve increasing the awareness of the facilities and potential to investors and commercial interests outside the county. Furthermore, it will involve developing a network of enterprises in order to strengthen the overall approach and to develop linkages with suppliers and organisations outside the County.

factory_worker.jpgLaunching the Programme, Minister Brian Cowen thanked Atlantic Corridor Ireland and Offaly County Enterprise Board for their work on the programme to date. The goal of the Offaly Ambassadors Programme is to promote a positive image of Offaly in Ireland and beyond, which can help lead to increased business opportunities for Offaly companies and products and increased inward investment into the County. Speaking at the launch, Minister Cowen said: “Offaly is a unique location for everyone to consider for expansion of their business. I would sincerely hope that initiatives such as the Offaly Ambassadors Programme continue to market the County in an innovative and positive manner and I would ask everyone involved in the Ambassadors Programme in Offaly to support the initiative as much as possible by taking every possible opportunity to tell others about the great business and living opportunities that Offaly has to offer.”

Offaly County Manager Niall Sweeney was also enthusiastic about the new programme and commented: “Offaly is now set to compete for investment opportunities that will assist in the County's future sustainable development. The local agencies are looking forward to working with you to harness the untapped potential of your knowledge, networks and most of all your affinity to Offaly. One positive utterance from you about our County is worth more, and is more effective, than pages of promotional literature."
As a follow-on to the launch, a number of Invest in Offaly high profile business lunches and breakfasts have been organised to introduce Ambassadors to each other and to discuss the programme objectives and targets.
